Meet Our Team

Dr. Peter Lowenthal graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.  He was accepted into the veterinary program at Cornell Veterinary School in Ithaca New York, and received a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1984.  After graduation, he completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at California Animal Hospital in 1985, and then began his employment here at Blue Cross Pet Hospital.  His professional interests are small animal internal medicine and critical care.

In 1988, Dr. Lowenthal became co-owner of Blue Cross Pet Hospital with Dr. James Walters.  He currently lives in Studio City with his wife and two sons, and enjoys tennis, bicycling, spinning, movies, reading, and coaching little league.

Dr. Nahmi Jones graduated cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 1985.  She then attended the University of Pennsylvania for her Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) degree, and graduated in 1989.  After graduation, Dr. Jones began her employment with Blue Cross Pet Hospital.  Professionally, she is interested in studying the human/animal bond.

Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Jones now resides in Lake Balboa.  She enjoys horseback riding, competing in 3-day eventing.  Dr. Jones also enjoys traveling.  Her recent trips have taken her from India to New Orleans.

Dr. James Walters graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University in 1976 with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science.  He then attended Purdue University, and received a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1980.  After graduation, Dr. Walters moved to the Los Angeles area where he began working for Blue Cross Pet Hospital.  In 1988 he became co-owner of Blue Cross Pet Hospital with Dr. Peter Lowenthal. 

His professional interests are soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and geriatric medicine.  Dr. Walters currently lives in Studio City with his wife, Mitzi, a registered pharmacist employed by Costco Pharmacies.  Dr. Walters has two grown children currently attending college on the East Coast.  He enjoys wildlife photography, bird watching, traveling, reading, and running.
